As a woman currently in peri-menopause I see a lot of literature saying that collagen production is dropping rapidly from this point in our lives. So would it still be accurate to believe my body will continue to produce enough for my needs if I consume enough protein? I'm not keen on taking supplements, so I try to add it to my diet through things like bone broths and I buy Chief collagen bars, because they're the only brand I've found that tries to avoid adding extra crap. By the way, it's been great to find your channel. I've been listening to your videos like podcasts as my car radio has about given up the ghost. I appreciate the nutrition side and connecting it to climbing.

Very reasonable information you have provided. I got caught up in the hype and tried AG1 for three months. I also looked at the ingredients and thought it was a very expensive multi-vitamin. I should have realized this before even paying for AG1. Ironically the multi-vitamin I take is far superior in most categories. I didn't notice much over three months of taking AG1 daily. I love eating red meat, oily fish, eggs, vegetables and even liver so I think I am well covered already.

I tried AG1 last year. I did not feel ANY difference, in the first week, second, third or fourth week. When I take a probiotic, that is ONLY a probiotic, I can feel and see results in three days to a week. When I take my B vitamins, I can feel and see results in one to two days. When I take Turmeric for inflammation, I can feel results in one to two days. Oregano Oil, I feel results in one to two weeks. Chlorella. . . Spirulina. . . results in a week to two. With AG1 (if they are even REALLY putting in, what they claim they put in the bag), I felt nothing, and saw NO results whatsoever, from the first scoop, to the last. But that isn't the only reason I canceled the subscription. As you were saying, Dave. . . I think AG1 wants to put so many ingredients into their product, that the quantities are forced to be very minimal, thus having NO type of affect or benefit to the customer. I also didn't like that it wasn't until I received my order, that I saw the "Prop. 65" warning on the package. And of course then there is the cost of the AG1. WAY overpriced. You can find alternatives with more quantity of the better ingredients in AG1 for 1/3 to half the price. And also, you can get a lot of the nutrients off of real foods and raw fruits, veggies and nuts. Look into how many benefit there are in Brazil nuts, walnuts, and dates. Just ONE Brazil nut per day gives you so many benefits. Same goes for eating just two dates per day. And they will not cost you a $95 monthly subscription.

AG1 is very clearly hocus-pocus. It's likely harmless and it might be useful as a placebo - to make you feel good and create a kind of healthy ritual for yourself. But for anyone who actually tries to taste the product it should be OBVIOUS that it contains only miniscule trace amounts of actual ingredients and its mostly just spirulina and cheap fillers.

Interesting video, dave! I think the only thing you can show is that if one is already a beast, a mono beef diet will not impact them negatively, similar to the studies showing that unhealthy people are unhealthy and just happen to eat beef. I think you're pretty wrong on the environmental impact part of the video though. It is 100% not sustainable that a majority of ppl eat a predominantly meat-based diet due to carbon emissions and land use. Beef is a driver of deforestation, plus animals eat most of the grown food. That's unfurtonately a part where you also fall into a cherrypicking traphole from which it's hard to recover. Gut health and mood also is something that is very anecdotal. I totally agree with you that long-term studies on mono beef diets would be super interesting, especially over a longer period. I lost a ton of weight on a ultralow carb keto diet, which I did for a year. I felt that my gut health wasn't great throughout and in the end, eating so much of the same became a bit nauseating and dull. I would love to see how ppl on mono beef diets for a year would feel. Again, great and iteresting video, you're a true champion!

Hi Dave. I’m from Scotland (inverness) but live and work in Germany. I’ve just discovered your channel. You mentioned in the AG1 video that you got your blood work done. Could you please tell me where you went for a proper blood test. Was it private? I would like to get my ferritin levels checked when I am home this summer but have no faith in our local GP. I would be happy to pay privately if you can recommend somewhere. (I’m vegan (for ethical reasons), and have always struggled with iron deficiency….Cheers! Fiona

So it works for Dave, and might work for you…. But Keto is a very extreme diet, so I would not go down that route without great care. Do we yet know any long term issues. I cannot see that it is a natural diet , well unless you are Inuit, and apparently they have a relatively poor life expectancy. Also, to truly become ketogenic is very difficult from what I see. It is a diet that should include a very high proportion of vegetables, so going to be good for you from that point. I would suggest for most, eating a lot of vegetables, half raw half cooked, fruit, whole grains, pulses and nuts may work equally well for you. Definitely no sugar, which is the most likely cause of any weight loss/ mental issues. If you wish to eat flesh, oily fish (not farmed) first choice, and then free range grass fed meat. (But be aware that the world cannot produce enough healthy meat to everyone)

I get your point. If only people would eat more eggs and meat. I do disagree that eating healthy is not difficult, specifically for vegetarians and more so vegans. A couple of years ago I met a colonoscopy specialist and asked him, if he could give one advice to everyone, what would it be. The by far dominant client group was vegtarians and vegans including children. He got agitated and said that our body is not made to live on plants alone, and as adults we can do what we like to our own body, but never ever put children growing up on a plant only diet. It is extremely difficult to ensure correct nutrition.

I don't think AG1 is marketed towards anyone outside of very technologically developed parts of the world. You talking about nutrient deficiencies in the _worldwide_ population doesn't strike me as entirely fair. Supplements can be designed based on assumptions of dietary intakes. You're average Joe Rogan listener probably gets plenty of iron from meats. 🤷‍♂️
